Community Science Monitoring

Join us for stream monitoring work on the banks of two tributaries of the Bitterroot River!

In 2013, the Clark Fork Coalition (CFC) established a volunteer program to increase community involvement and get extra helping hands on the river. Today, 200+ annual volunteers work alongside CFC staff and partners to get things done for the river. Whether it’s collecting important data or planting trees in riparian areas, volunteers use science-based methods to make positive changes across the watershed! What will volunteers do?

The first week will take place along the banks of O’Brien Creek where volunteers will assess stream habitat on September 18 and then assess noxious weed populations on September 21.

The second week will take place along the banks of Miller Creek on a private property where volunteers will assess stream habitat on September 25 and then assess riparian vegetation and noxious weed populations on September 28.

Volunteers will work alongside our Project Manager Adam Swatalski, Project Manager Gretchen Watkins, and Community Programs Manager Julia Crocker.

What will volunteers need to bring or wear?

Volunteers will walk through creek beds and duck below trees, so water shoes and comfort with these physical requirements are necessary. No previous monitoring experience is needed! As the date approaches expect an email with detailed information on where to meet, what to bring, and expectations.
