Job Title: Executive Director – with opportunity to lead CFC into a new era of growth and impact on behalf of the Clark Fork watershed

SUMMARY: The Clark Fork Coalition seeks an exceptional leader to serve as its Executive Director. This position provides strategic vision and operational management while leading a high-caliber team to advance the cause for a healthy Clark Fork watershed. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic individual to make a lasting impact on a renowned Montana river system and the people, fish, and wildlife it sustains.
ABOUT THE CLARK FORK COALITION: The Clark Fork Coalition is a regional leader in river conservation. Founded in 1985, we have an accomplished track record delivering on our mission to protect and restore the Clark Fork watershed in western Montana. We believe healthy rivers are the foundation for life. They’re what make all living communities resilient and vibrant and allow people and nature to thrive. The Coalition’s success is built on science-driven advocacy, public education and outreach, and diverse partnerships in stream restoration. This combination of expertise and a commitment to the long view make the Coalition a unique and trusted voice for the river.
ABOUT THE POSITION: The Executive Director is responsible for leading a strong team to execute the Coalition’s mission, implement our 5-year strategic plan, and inspire a culture of care for the river. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides strategic leadership and oversees all aspects of the Coalition’s programs, operations, and fundraising. Key duties include:
- Strategic Leadership: Support and engage the Board of Directors in developing and evolving strategies that achieve the Coalition’s mission.
- Program Execution: Provide leadership in program planning, implementing, and tracking of key initiatives that support the strategic vision.
- Team Management: Lead and inspire a dedicated staff of 15, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and innovation.
- Financial and Fundraising: Oversee organizational finances, including the Coalition’s $2.7M budget and all fundraising efforts.
- Community and Stakeholder Engagement: Build community support for the river and maintain strong relationships with partners, stakeholders, and government agencies engaged in issues affecting the watershed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in any relevant field; advanced degree preferred
- Five+ years of nonprofit leadership, or equivalent experience
- Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven success in fundraising, grant writing, and donor cultivation
- Demonstrated commitment to environmental conservation and advocacy
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Knowledge of Montana’s geography, politics, and culture is a plus, as is a familiarity with the state’s conservation issues and the conservation community
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- Annual salary of $105,000 – $145,000; negotiable depending on qualifications and experience
