River News & Brews: State of the Clark Fork

📅 Wednesday, October 15, 2025
🕔 5:00–7:00 PM
📍 Missoula Public Library, Cooper Space (4th Floor)

Decades of community effort and restoration in the Clark Fork River basin have delivered measurable gains: cleaner water in once-contaminated stretches, revitalized spawning grounds and connected passage for native trout, and healthier riparian corridors that support both wildlife and people. These gains show what’s possible when science, policy, and communities come together.

Yet the river’s recovery is far from complete. A warming climate, ongoing contamination from both legacy and emerging pollution, and increasing demand for water supplies continue to impact water quantity and quality. Join us at State of the Clark Fork, where we’ll share the river’s current state—highlighting recent progress, presenting ongoing challenges, and looking ahead to the bold, collaborative work needed to bring this hardworking river system back to health.

The event will consist of a moderated panel discussion and conversation with Clark Fork River experts led by CFC’s Executive Director, Dr. Brian Chaffin. Panelists will include:

  • Dr. Sam Carlson, Staff Scientist, Clark Fork Coalition
  • Dr. Valerie Kurth, Clark Fork Basin Water Planner, Montana DNRC
  • Caleb Uerling, Upper Clark Fork Fisheries Biologist, Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks
  • Chris Stark, Staff Scientist, CSKT Legal Department, Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes
  • Katie Garcin-Forba, Superfund Bureau Chief, Montana DEQ

There is no cost to attend, but seating is limited—reserve yours by RSVPing today!
